A exciting news for Indians From America that a Maharashtra boy has achieved an international recognition in the field health and medical science.



 Dr.Anwar parvez Sayed, a 42 year is now a resident of Seattle,Washington-USA as he has successfully cleared ” Doctor of Global Health’ examination.The degree has been conferred in the Campus of ‘University of Washington a recently held ceremony.


He is only not just Indian but Asian also among 7 who achieved this feat this year and selected for this programme.



Dr.Anwar is originally from Solapur city of Mahabharata state , moreover he has completed his primary education from M.A Pangal Urdu Primary school and Social Urdu High school, Solapur.


Dr Anwar has worked as a Programme Management Officer at the World Health Organization's Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office and as Country Director at UW International Training and Education Centre for Health in India. 


The attainment of this commanding position reflects Dr. Anwar's magnificent expertise and commitment to improving global health in his respected domain namely antimicrobial stewardship and HIV prevention and treatment.


 He has an extensive experience in public health, particularly in communicable diseases.He has successfully led interventions across 22 countries and implemented innovative service delivery models reaching over half a million people living with HIV.Throughout his career in global health,he has have played a pivotal role in addressing critical health challenges by focusing on antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections.


Dr. Anwar has a robust background in leadership, strategic planning, project management, business development, stakeholder engagement and training development. His wide yardstick of diverse work includes numerous roles, involvement and collaborations with various international organizations across the world like Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.He successfully managed large-scale health programs,developed ingenious healthcare solutions and established strategic partnerships to enhance health outcomes.

 

Dr. Anwar's miscellaneous educational qualification comprises of:-

2021-24 - Doctor of Global Health Leadership and Practice from University of Washington, Seattle, USA

2022-23 - Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from The Royal College of Physicians, UK

2017-18 - PG Diploma in Infectious Diseases from Medvarsity & University of New South Wales, Australia

2013-15 - Master of Public Health from Jodhpur School of Public Health, Jodhpur,India

2004-06 - Diploma in Tuberculosis Diseases from College of Physicians & Surgeons of Bombay, India

1997-03 - Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery from Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune, India.


Now he is buckled up to work under International training and education center for health (I-TECH) at Seattle Washington to care public health round the world.


Speaking with Latur Reporter Anwar says,

The vision to become a catalyst for positive change in society through public health practice was a constant source of inspiration. Learning implementation science and sharpening leadership, program management, and policy development skills deepened my understanding of global health complexities. 


He said, The Quranic verse, "Allāh does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity" (Quran 2:286), inspired me to take on new challenges, reinforcing my belief in my ability to handle them. Additionally, the verse, "And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved the lives of all mankind" (Quran 5:32), is a powerful inspiration, reminding me of the profound impact that saving lives can have on humanity,Anwar added further.


Informing about his Journey he said that , I was born in a lower-middle-class Muslim family , I aspired to support myself, my family, and others. Orphaned at 10, I saw my father succumb to lung cancer, relying on alternative medicine. My mother, a Urdu Primary school teacher, raised me and my sisters without support from anyone. Despite these challenges, I pursued medical school at 17, aided by an interest-free loan. I worked various jobs and completed a postgraduate diploma in Tuberculosis and chest diseases before I started my professional and academic journey.


 He said,While pursuing my MBBS, I received an interest-free loan from the Islamic Development Bank of Jeddah, which covered my entire medical education expenses. I will always be thankful for this timely support.


Dr.Feroz Sayed (Renowned Doctor and childhood friend of Dr.Anwar )expressed his joyousness over the success ,he excitingly said,it is a proud moment for us.An Urdu medium student and our die hard friend reached America and selected for global health program ,will be taking care public health round the globe. He further said,inspite of many challenges he didn't lose his rhythm,most importantly he chose field work ,which most of the doctors don't prefer.This is the unique quality which seperates him from other medical professionals,added Dr.Feroz 


Mother of Dr.Anwar ,Mrs. Fatima Sayed (Head Mistress Rtd.) felt deep pleasure while sharing her comment.She says that I am proud of my son ,this is the result of his sincere efforts, hard work and sacrifice his family’s May Allah grant him good health to continue service to humanity.


In his message to youths Dr.Anwar said,"Adversity is a test of our faith and resilience; it shapes us into individuals capable of driving positive change in our communities and the world."



During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Anwar Sayed provided critical services at the Indian Red Cross Society's Bel-Air Hospital in Maharashtra. This included treating over 1,000 COVID-19 patients, managing limited resources such as oxygen and medicines, and addressing daily challenges like supply shortages and bed availability. Dr. Sayed worked in a secondary-level facility with limited equipment and trained workers, offering care to the surrounding community despite significant constraints. Dr. Anwar set up a clinic to provide initial COVID-19 support. This included various services such as screening, testing, and initial treatment for COVID-19 patients.
